Teenager launches book on HIV/AIDS

Kpando (V/R), March 14, GNA – Miss Joan Enyo Simpson, a JSS one teenager of Gayibor Academy in Kpando on Sunday launched her first book entitled, “How Efua escaped HIV”.

The 11-page book is a collection of six short stories dwelling on issues of disobedience and drug abuse, highlighting the menace of HIV/AIDS.

The book, which was printed at the Comboni Press in Sogakope, is dedicated to the Missahoe Charity Home at Kpando. Ms Simpson told Journalists at the launch that she would dedicate the book to a Charity Home to reawaken the interest of society in assisting the poor and needy in the community. Reviewing the book, Mrs Cecilia Ama Addo, an English tutor at Kpando Secondary School commended Miss Simpson for thoroughly exploring myth, history, legend to find meanings relevant to the country’s situations.

Mrs Addo said the authoress had displayed techniques of mature literary writers, such as realism, suspense and humour, and expressed the hope that she would rise up to become one of the great literary writers.

Mr Pius Adanuti, Kpando District Chief Executive (DCE), pledged to ensure that the District HIV Desk had a copy of the book to assist in the sensitisation of school children.

He called on society to identify geniuses, such as Miss Simpson, and encourage them to develop their talents.

Funding for the book was provided by Mr Francis Simpson, Uncle of the Authoress while Rev. Father Isaac Benuyenah, a tutor at Saint Mary’s Secondary at Lolobi in the Hohoe District gave publishing advice. The first copy was sold at five million cedis. 14 March 05
