Tarkwa (W/R), Dec 2, GNA – Professor Kwasi Andam, Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has called for the application of science and technology to improve the living standards of Ghanaians.
He said the University had to link up with industry to apply its research findings to alleviate poverty.
Prof Andam was speaking at the launch of the second edition of the TECHNOCRAT, a magazine of science and technology at the Western University College at Tarkwa.
He noted that the “Legon Observer” a political magazine, was used to achieve democratic freedom.
“It is now the turn of KNUST to use the “Technocrat” to tell Ghanaians what to do to get to the middle income level”.
The Technocrat was first launched in Houston in the United States, in May, later at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra and the KNUST Kumasi.
Mrs Scholastica Mensah, a Pharmacist and an alumna of KNUST, commended “great inventors” for sharing their knowledge with the rest of the world.
She expressed regret that Ghanaians especially herbalists kept to their potent drugs preparations to themselves and “when they die the clue to the preparation gets lost forever”.
Mrs Mensah said the magazine is full of biography and appealed to readers to patronise it to know and appreciate what they went through before reaching where they are now, adding that, “One thing lacking in Ghana is biography.”
The sale of the first 15 copies of the magazine amounted to 62.7 million cedis.
