Ho, May 12, GNA – Technical and Vocational qualifications in the country will be at seven levels under the education reforms. Mr James Glover, Chairman of the National Co-ordinating Committee for Technical and Vocational Education Training (NACVET) announced this during discussions with Principals and Proprietors of Secretarial Institutions in Ho, regarding the now established Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) to oversee technical and vocational training in the country.
Apprentices would be eligible for proficiency qualification under levels one and two, while products of Vocational and Technical institutions would become Crafts Technicians under levels three to five, to be eligible to enter Polytechnics to pursue courses leading to the Higher National Diploma (HND) under level six. The HND holders would then be eligible to pursue the Bachelor in Technology B.Tech at level seven. Mr Glover said technical education is very expensive because of the huge investments required to take its products through the requisite practical skills. He said such huge investments have the potential to pay off within a short time when the products began to put their skills to work in industry and other sectors of the economy. 12 May 07
