Mumford (C/R), April 1, GNA – Mr Anthony Kobena Woode, out-going headmaster of Mumford Catholic Primary and Community ‘B’ Junior Secondary Schools, on Thursday urged teachers to intensify their efforts to train their pupils and students to become resourceful for national development. He reminded his colleagues that they were also taught by teachers to become useful to the society and were therefore obliged to transform children into responsible adults.
Mr Woode said: “A teacher who has a target to achieve would not be discouraged or be deterred by what other people say, he would strive to achieve it no matter the odds,”. Mr Woode, who retires this month after 35 years of a dedicated service was speaking at a send-off party organised for him by his staff. He said his was happy that he had achieved his vision of training people for national development.
Mr Woode appealed to headteacher not to turn themselves into tin gods but to listen to advice and seek consents of their teachers especially in matters concerning academic work. He also advised headteachers to collaborate with Parents Teacher Associations and school management committees (SMCS) towards the development of education. Mr John Korankye Pone, Deputy Central Regional Manager of Catholic Education Unit, urged teachers to contribute to the development of the communities in which they live.
Mr Eric Adoko, a teacher of the school, said the staff considered headmaster’s retirement as a challenge to improve upon the school’s achievement. Mr J.E.S. Baffoe, official at Gomoa District Directorate of Ghana Education Service, commended the headmaster for his contribution to the development of education in the area. Mr George Blankson, Deputy VAT Commissioner, Operations, donated one million cedis towards the purchase of a computer for the school and gifts were presented to Mrs Woode.
