Teachers urged to be devoted to duty

Dr Yaw Baah, Deputy Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), has called on leaders to serve with humility, transparency and selfless devotion to duty.

He said there was a blessing in selfless leadership, an example being ex-President Dr Kwame Nkrumah who placed the welfare of the people above his personal gains and left an indelible mark which is celebrated today.

Dr Baah was speaking at a workshop for the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) in Accra to upgrade their professional skills.

He said such educational programmes enabled the workers to work hard wherever they were posted to.

Dr Baah said teaching placed them in leadership positions and they must, therefore, be aware of the responsibility attached to it so as to serve as selflessly as required.

He advised them to delegate responsibility to others as a way of getting people involved in trade union activities.

Mr Ralph Apaaya, General Secretary of TEWU, urged members of the union to be confident and courageous to face all the challenges they were confronted with.
