Teachers to resume classes at Apegame E.P. JHS

Apegame, (V/R), Jan. 26, GNA – Teachers are expected to resume classes at the Afegame E.P. Junior High School on Wednesday January 27. The teachers had stayed away from school since January 18, in protest of an assault on a colleague by some “faceless people” on January 14, this year, Mr Gabriel S. Kploanyi, Volta Regional Director of Education, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview.

He said the decision to recall pupils and teachers to school followed the intervention of the District Directorate of Education, District Assembly and the community leaders while police investigation continued. Information available to the GNA indicate that a male teacher of the school was attacked at home at about 7.45 pm on January 14 by some masked people suspected to be some male students punished for indiscipline and in-subordination.

A source told the GNA that the students were punished for disrupting studies with mobile-phones. The source said following the punishment they allegedly went to the school farm and stole coconuts and pineapples and destroyed the pineapples on the farm. 26 Jan. 10
