Teachers’ in La-Dadekotopon attend workshop

A three-day capacity-building workshop has been organized by the Municipal Education Directorate of the La-Dadekotopon for basic school teachers in the municipality to sharpen their teaching and reading skills.

About 100 participants were drawn from all the public schools in the municipality.

Mrs Bernice Addai, the La-Dakekotopon Municipal Director of Education, in a welcome address, said the workshop was designed to empower teachers to intensify the teaching of reading in schools from kindergarten to primary three.

According to her, it came to light after a baseline survey conducted that, a lot of children cannot read, hence the workshop to address the situation, and that, the teachers needed the skills and experiences to prepare their lessons to deliver properly.

The programme, she said, in the long-term, would help the slow learners to catch up with the fast readers, adding that, by the end of the workshop, the teachers would be equipped with the pedagogy skills for teaching effectively.

The topics treated included preparation for reading and basic skills in teaching reading, using the phonic method and importance of reading.

Mrs Comfort Dovlo, the facilitator of the programme said the workshop would increase the competency of the participants to deliver efficiently in all the public schools in the district.
