Ejisu (Ash), March 23, GNA- Nana Kusi Adubofour, Ejisu-Juaben District Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has suggested to GNAT-Ladies to engage members in socio-economic ventures rather than weddings and funerals.
”GNAT will definitely support such programmes as it has been supporting and strengthening members during weddings and funerals.” Nana Adubofour was addressing the fourth biennial delegates conference of the district’s GNAT at Ejisu in Ashanti. He said problems like class size, lack of infrastructure, absence of adequate staff in schools, inadequate supply of textbooks and other teaching and learning materials still bedevil most of the schools in the district.
Nana Adubofour said the responsibility could not be left in the hands of the government.
“As educators, we have useful ideas that cannot be volunteered and it behoves the government, the district assembly and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to listen more and engage all stakeholders in education in more dialogue”, he said.
Nana Twie Adjei Baffour, Ashanti Regional GNAT Secretary, said the Teachers’ Fund has come to stay and therefore advised teachers to not only belong to the fund but also get actively involved in its affairs. He asked the teachers to always present their problems to the association for redress especially in the areas of upgrading their academic performance.
Nana Adubofour retained his position as district chairman, while Mr S.A. Appiagyei was elected the vice-chairman with Mr Twum Boakye as treasurer.
