Teachers Association Donate Furniture To Primary Schools

Binduri (Upper East), 15 Jan., The President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Mr. E.N. Naaso, has said the Association is not only interested in fighting for better conditions of service for its members, but is also concerned about the plight of Ghanaians, especially those from deprived areas. He was speaking at Binduri, near Bawku, when he presented furniture donated by GNAT and the Swedish Teachers Association valued at 8.9 million cedis to St. Peter’s Primary School. He said GNAT has so far spent 53 million cedis on furniture for six schools in the six districts of the Upper East Region. The beneficiaries include Zebilla District Council, VEA, Winkogo, Ayieta, and Navrongo primary schools. Mr. Naaso expressed the hope that the donations will enhance teaching and learning, encourage enrollment as well as narrow the GAP between schools in urban and rural areas. Mr. Dominic Akudago, District Chief Executive for Bawku East, said it is the right of all citizens to have equal educational opportunities as enshrined in the constitution. He said government and the District Assemblies alone cannot provide all the educational facilities needed and called for collaboration between all stakeholders. Mr. Akudago commended GNAT and the Swedish Teacher Association for the donation, and advised the school to take good care of the furniture. They should plant trees around the compound to serve as a wind break.
