Teacher defiles 14-year-old pupil in Bawku

Mr Wahid Azumah, 22-years-old teacher, has been remanded into prison custody for allegedly a 14-year- old junior high school pupil in Bawku.

Mr Justice Emmanuel Kofi Sunu of the Bawku circuit court remanded the accused person into prison custody to reappear December 11.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Raphael Azenyitiga said the victim, who is a pupil of Yirongo Junior High School, was returning home from an entertainment programme on November 22 when Azumah attacked her, pushed her to the ground and defiled her.

The victim was left unconscious until she regained consciousness, walked home and reported her ordeal to her mother who rushed her to the hospital.

Sergeant Azenyitiga said a report was made to the police and the accused was arrested.

Parents of the victim refused to appear in court because they wanted an out of court settlement but the presiding Judge refused and issued a bench warrant for their arrest.

The judge said their action was irresponsible, negligent and they would be put before court for the law to take its course.

He said children were national assets and gifts from God and there was the need for every parent to take good care of them.
