Taxi driver killed in traffic misunderstanding

Tema, August 31, GNA – The Tema Police have arrested Emmanuel Addy, a 25 year old driver, who allegedly beat a taxi driver to death in a traffic misunderstanding at Tema Community One on Sunday.

Addy at the time of the incident was driving an Isuzu Trooper said to belong to Madam Victoria Agbotui, mother of President Jerry John Rawlings.

A Police source quoting an eye witness, said Kwasi Kuma, the deceased who was driving a Honda Taxi cab crossed Addy at Padmore traffic light forcing Addy to stop abruptly.

When the traffic light gave Addy the right of way, he chased the deceased to the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) “bush canteen” area and crossed the taxi forcing the driver to stop.

A passenger on the taxi got down and begged Addy but he punched him on the chest, pushed him aside and charged on the taxi driver. The source said Kuma begged Addy but he gave the cab driver a heavy slap, which sent him sprawling on the street unconscious.

The suspect then drove Kuma to the Port Clinic, where he was pronounced dead on arrival and was told to send the body to the Tema General Hospital Mortuary.

Addy decided to report the matter to the Community One Police before sending the body to the morgue and he was arrested and placed in custody. The body has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy while investigation continues.
