Tamale Metro Assembly confirms MCE

Tamale, June 14, GNA – The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TAMA) on Wednesday confirmed Mr. Mohammed Amin Adam, a former Deputy Northern Regional Minister, as the substantive Chief Executive of the Metropolis. In an election conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr. Adam polled 75 out of the 76 votes cast, representing 98.68 per cent. As soon as the results were declared there was a wild jubilation as the people heaved a sigh of relief that “at long last, Tamale now has an MCE”.

The Assembly has been without an MCE for a long time now because the members failed to confirm the former MCE in two previous elections.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Adam thanked the Assembly Members and assured them that he would work hard to justify the confidence reposed in him.

He said by his confirmation, the Assembly had demonstrated “a singleness of purpose and unity, which indicates their readiness to work together as a team to enhance the development of the Metropolis”. Mr. Adam asked the people to judge the Assembly by its ability to move the Metropolis forward and bring development to the area and not on political or chieftaincy lines.

Mr. Abdul-Hanna Gundadow, the Presiding Member, observed that because of the absence of a substantive MCE, the Metropolis had lagged behind in development.

He therefore urged the Assembly Members to bury their differences and cooperate with the MCE to enhance the development of the Metropolis. Among those present at the confirmation were Mr. Boniface Gambilla, Upper East Regional Minister, DCEs from both the Northern and Upper East Regions and party representatives from the NPP and the NDC.
