Agona Swedru, Dec 23, GNA – Parents of final year students of the Swedru School of Business have appealed to the Director General of Ghana Education Service and the Minister of Education, Science and Sports to investigate why the school collected printing fees from them but failed to conduct the examination.
The spokesman for the parents, Mr. Samuel Kyei, told the Ghana News Agency that each student was billed 18,000.00 cedis as cost of printing examination papers.
But the Headmaster, Mr. Kojo Opare Essel, later told the students that the examination questions would not be printed and that the tutors would write the questions on the board. Mr Kyei said the students protested but the Headmaster stuck to his guns and this compelled the students to demonstrate peacefully.
He said the District Director of Education, Mr Chris D. Hammond, intervened and asked the Headmaster to print the question papers but he refused.
Mr Essel told the GNA that the examination papers were not printed because the tutors did not make preparations towards it as a result of the National Association of Graduation Teachers’ strike. He said 432 final year students failed to take the examinations because of the decision to write the questions on the board. The headmaster said the money would be refunded to the parents.
