Swedru Govt Hospital records 37 HIV/AIDS cases

Agona Swedru, Jan 23, GNA- The Swedru Government Hospital recorded 37 cases of HIV/AIDS last year, Dr Louis Amousou, Agona District Director of Health, said at the District World AIDS day at Agona Swedru. He said nine of the 37 people, who donated blood at the Swedru Government Hospital, were confirmed HIV positive.
Dr Amousou called for voluntary testing and counselling and urged the Ghana Education Service (GES), Community based Organisations and NGOs in the district to support the District AIDS Team to help in the crusade against the HIV/AIDS.
Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng, Agona District Chief Executive said the government considers human resource development as significant that was why huge sums of money is being spent in the fight against spreading of the disease.
He appealed to teachers and pastors to talk and preach about HIV/AIDS.
