Mankessim April 27, GNA – The Government has been urged to direct its policies and programmes to the sustenance of the goodwill of Ghanaians it has enjoyed so far.
Mr Felix Antwi-Nyarko, Mankessim Ward Chairman of the NPP who made the call said certain policies and programmes of the government of late seemed not to be in the interest of the people.
Mr Antwi-Nyarko said the outcome of the Asawase by-election was clear indication that the goodwill for the government was weaning. Speaking to GNA in an interview at Mankessim on Tuesday, the NPP Ward Chairman urged the government to revisit some of its policies to reduce the hardship facing the people.
He said execution of projects would mean nothing to the people if they faced economic hardships.
Mr Antwi-Nyarko said the 2008 general elections would be a testing one for the party because President Kufuor on whose back majority of NPP Members of Parliament rode to win their seats would not be on the scene. We should not create any situation which could be used against us in the 2008 elections, he said.
He appealed to the government to take a second look at the exercise of ejecting traders from hawking by the roadside and advised the leadership of the party to ensure that bill boards and other campaign material were well preserved for use in the next general election. They should not be allowed to deteriorate for the party to use huge sums of money to procure them for the next elections, he said.
