Walewale (NR), March 15, GNA – Madam Susana Adam, a former Member of Parliament for West Mamprusi Central Constituency, was at the weekend endorsed by popular acclamation as National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the newly created Mamprusi West constituency in the “Overseas” area of the West Mamprusi District.
Her endorsement followed series of closed-door negotiations between elders and Regional Executive of the party after the primaries for the constituency had been postponed four times due to initial uncertainty about the fate of the newly created constituencies.
In an address, Madam Adam thanked delegates for the confidence reposed in her and called on the rank and file of the party not to rest on their oars but strive to redeem the image of the NDC and bring it to power again.
She said bickering and unnecessary tension caused the party’s fall in the 2000 Parliamentary and Presidential elections in the constituency, adding that with the current stability and unity in the party the only task left is for the delegates to mount vigorous campaign to return the party to power.
She said no one could exercise their franchise in the forthcoming elections if they failed to register when the voter registration exercise begins on March 16, and called on the delegates to go out in their numbers to explain the processes to the people and encourage them to register.
Madam Adam contested the 2000 election and lost to the People’s National Convention (PNC) candidate, Mr. Issifu Azumah. She becomes the first parliamentary candidate announced for the new constituency. The New Patriotic Party (NPP), PNC and the other parties are yet to elect their candidates in that constituency.
