Sunyani MCE Inspects Projects

Mr. Kwasi Oppong-Ababio, Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, has inspected some projects in the municipality and assured residents of equitable distribution of the assembly’s resources.

The inspection took him to Atronie, Yawhima, Kotokrom, Abesim, Sunyani and New- Dormaa.

The projects included the construction of six unit classroom blocks for the local Methodist Primary and Junior High School (JHS) and a clinic at Atronie and eight-unit toilets for Seventh Day Adventist local Primary and JHS at Yawhima.

Others are a six-unit classroom block for Kotokrom Darul Hadith Islamic Primary and JHS, three unit classroom block including two unit toilets for Garrison Primary School at the Liberation Barracks and a three-storey boys’ dormitory for St James Seminary and Senior High School at Abesim.

Construction work on the three-storey dormitory each for girls and boys at Sunyani Senior High School are also on course.

Funds for the projects are from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND), the Municipal Assembly’s Common Fund and the Assembly’s internally generated fund.

Mr. Oppong-Ababio told newsmen after the inspection that all the projects were expected to be completed at least by the end of the year.

He said this year, the Assembly intended to embark on the provision of street lights in some parts of the municipality alongside the on-going construction of access roads.

At the Atronie Methodist Primary and JHS, Mr. Boahen Nketiah, the Head Teacher, said the school was in need of potable drinking water and toilets for the 666 pupils and students and appealed to the Assembly for support.

Mr. Nunoo said because of lack of funds some of the projects scheduled to be completed by January this year were still under construction.

Mr. John Mensah, Assembly Member for Yawhima electoral area and a teacher at the local Methodist Primary JHS, also asked for similar projects in the school.**
