Sunyani health scheme pays 26 billion cedis on medical bills

Sunyani, May 22, GNA – Mr. George Oppong Danquah, the Public Relations Officer of Sunyani Municipal Heath Insurance Scheme, has said the scheme has so far spent 26 billion cedis on medical bills since it started operations in September 2005.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, he said the scheme would “open its doors” from May till July this year to clients to renew expired membership cards and that 31,000 membership cards had expired.

Mr. Danquah expressed worry about the rate at which people were abusing the scheme in the Brong Ahafo Region, citing frequent visits to health centres by some clients, thereby putting pressure on the scheme. He said the scheme had consequently issued facility attendance cards to all their clients as a measure to address the problem.
