Sunyani churches pray for peaceful elections

Sunyani, March 24, GNA – The Sunyani Local Council of Churches on Wednesday organized a day’s intercessory prayer session for successful and peaceful Elections 2004.

The theme was taken from Joel 2 17: “Let The Priest, The Ministers Of The Lord, Weep Between The Porch And The Altar And Let Them Say, Spare Thy People O Lord And Give Not Thine Reproach That The Heathen Should Rule Them”.

Nana Kwadwo Seinti, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister; Mr Francis Boateng, Regional Coordinating Director and Heads of Government Departments and various churches took part in the session. In a sermon, Prophet James Osei Amaniampong, Sunyani Area Apostle of the Church of Pentecost, recounted how the Lord called Joel and other Pastors to pray for their people because of the doom ahead of them. “It is the business of Pastors to pray and fast for continued peace and tranquillity in the country”, he said, and prayed to God to have mercy on the country and for the people to discover their potentials for national progress.

Special prayers were said for President John Agyekum Kufuor, Ministers of State, District Chief Executives, political parties, officials of the Electoral Commission and other organizations in the performance of their duties as servants of the country. Nana Seinti commended the churches for their “patriotic care” for the plight of the country and urged them to continue with such zeal. He requested that prayers be said for chiefs in the Region to help to resolve the many chieftaincy disputes that had stalled progress in some areas.
