Submission is key to a successful marriage – Prof. Anku

Accra, July 6, GNA – Submission does not mean inferiority, but is a key element in the smooth functioning of any business, government and family, Professor Sitsofe E. Anku, a Lecturer at the Ashesi University College, said on Wednesday.

“God ordained submission in relationship to prevent chaos and it is essential to understand that submission is not surrender, withdrawal or apathy,” he said.

Prof. Anku, who was speaking on: “Mathematics, Marriage and National Development”, said human beings had unique gifts from God and those gifts should be used to strengthen marriages and to glorify God. He said marriage could not be successful without submission and advised couples to submit to each other.

He said every couple should mathematically calculate and know that marriage minus submission and love was equal to divorce and advised couples to submit to each other.

Prof. Anku said marriage was union formation and a consolidation process that must be understood with one body, spirit, mind and love. God created all people in his image and, therefore, all have the same value and He did not make anyone superior or inferior, stressing that one sex is not better than the other.

Prof. Anku said submission between equals was submission by choice and added, “we serve God in these relationships by willingly submitting to each other in our church, to our spouse and to government leaders”. He said although there must be lines of authority in marriage there should not be lines of superiority.

“We must not let the issue of authority and submission become a wedge to oneness in marriages,” Professor Anku said.
