Students, Pupils promote sanitation

Nkoranza (B/A), Feb. 21, GNA – Staff and students of the Catholic Primary and Junior Secondary Schools at Pinihe in the Nkoranza District at the weekend organised a clean up exercise to promote sanitation in the area.

They swept the streets and compounds and burnt litter and rubbish. Mr. Charles Baafour Amisare, head teacher of the Roman Catholic Primary School said the exercise was also to inculcate in the students the spirit of voluntarism and communal labour.

He said the exercise would be organised on regular basis to keep the area clean at all times and urged food vendors to keep litter bins at their work places.

Mr. Amisare urged landlords to keep their bathrooms clean and avoid stagnant water that would breed mosquitoes.

Before the exercise, the students marched through the streets with placards some of which read, “Clean environment, healthy people,” “Sweep your compound at all times”, “Don’t defecate indiscriminately” and “Clear weedy areas to prevent mosquito breeding.”
