Student remanded for defilement

Accra, May 13, GNA – A 20-year-old student who allegedly defiled a 13-year-old househelp was on Tuesday remanded into prison custody by an Accra Circuit Court. Kwasi Anim, charged with defilement pleaded not guilty. He is to reappear on May 27.

Presenting the case, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr George Abavelim said the victim lives with her mistress at Asofan, near Pokuase, Accra in the same house with accused.

ASP Abavelim said on Sunday May 13, this year the victim’s mistress, who is the complainant went to church and asked the victim to join her as soon as she finished with her household chores. He said the victim went to sit on a bench preparing to leave for church when Anim approached her, lured her into an uncompleted building and had sex with her. Prosecution said the victim who became frightened after the ordeal failed to inform her mistress. However, four days after the ordeal, the complainant detected some changes in the way the victim walked. When her mistress questioned the victim, she narrated her ordeal to her. The complainant reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service and medical form was issued to the victim to enable her attend the hospital for treatment. 13 May 08
