Kumasi, Nov 5, GNA – A second-year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and three others were on Friday fined a total of 5.6 million cedis by a Kumasi circuit court for various traffic offences. The student, Enoch O. Baah, who faced a charge of driving without license, was fined 600,000 cedis or in default will serve a six-month jail term in hard labour.
Kwadwo Acheampong was fined two million cedis for driving without a license and a fire extinguisher as well as parking at an unauthorized place and will serve a 12-month prison term in default. Dennis Korley, the third culprit, who was charged with driving without a license and a warning triangle, was also fined two million cedis and will, in default go to jail for 12 months in hard labour, whilst Eric Appiah, the fourth culprit was fined one million cedis or will serve a 12-month jail term in hard labour in default for careless driving and driving on the pavement. They all pleaded guilty to the charges.
Police Chief Inspector Mathew Asante told the court, presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that the accused persons were arrested on Thursday during a special exercise by the police in Kumasi to coincide with the Eid-Ul-Fitr celebration, which was a national holiday.
