Stray bullet kills bystander

Taifah Feb 13 GNA – An operation by forestry guards and the military to arrest chainsaw operators led to the death of a man and wounding another at the Taifa junction this morning.

An eye witness told the GNA that he and others were asleep when they heard a gunshot from a Forestry vehicle chasing some illegal chain-saw operators in a truck loaded with timber heading towards the direction of Accra from Nsawam.

The Taifa police later told the GNA that the forestry officers aimed at the tyres of the timber truck to prevent them from escaping, but unfortunately a stray bullet hit a bystander killing him instantly. According to the police the deceased had been sent to the police hospital for post-mortem whiles the wounded man is responding to treatment at the Nsawam government hospital.

The police said they are investigation the case and would soon name the victims and the cause of the incident.
