Stop the lawlessness – Council of State

The Council of State has advised against what it says is the seeming acts of indiscipline and lawlessness in parts of the country.

The concerns of the Council comes in the wake of the upsurge of lawlessness and mayhem recorded in parts of the country since the beginning of this year.

The government is contending with threats to security as the West African nation has seen more than necessary political crisis and cases of murder reported in the last five months.

At its maiden meeting with President Akufo-Addo in Accra yesterday, Chairman of the Council, Nana Otuo-Siriboe II called on the security agencies to stem the tide.

“Another issue Mr. President, which has been seriously engaging Council’s attention is the spate of acts of indiscipline and impunity in our society particularly reported acts of extrajudicial conducts. These incidents of misconducts are a creeping canker that must be decisively dealt with to stem their malignant effect on the social fabric.”

“Akufo-Addo orders Police to arrest hooligans”

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has emphasized that hooligans within his ruling New Patriotic Party will have no protection from government.

The President minced no words in condemning the act of hooliganism taking a centre stage in the governing party during the swearing-in ceremony of Sophia Akuffo as new Chief Justice Monday afternoon.

He warned: “To persons perpetrating acts of lawlessness in the name of being members of the ruling party, let me make it clear to you that you will find no shield in my government from the law.”

There is uneasy calm up-north in Savelugu following irate youth standoff with police last week over attempts to prevent government’s local representative of the area, Aishatu Seidu from taking office as DCE.

But Mr. Akufo-Addo urged the police to do everything in their power to bring to book all those who fall foul of the law.”
