Steel bender in court for robbery

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Samuel Ato, a steel bender, accused of robbery, in Police custody.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ernest Acheampong, prosecuting, told the Court that the accused person was recently released on the “Justice for All Programme”.

He said on May 31, this year at about 1000 hours, the complainants were sleeping when accused person and two others, now at large, who were armed with a double barrel gun, entered their compound.

The prosecution said, according to the complainants, the accused persons started collecting their items from room to room.

“Items collected included an iphone 6, wrist watches, power banks and cash,” he said.

DSP Acheampong said sometime after the robbery, one Nana Prempeh, who was among the victims and a trader in mobile phones at the Tip-Toe lane, was at his shop, when Ato brought in a power bank for sale.

He said the victim identified the power bank as one of the stolen items and when he got closer, he realised the accused was wearing his canvas and wrist watch.

Together, with other victims, who also identified him as the one who robbed them, they grabbed and handed him over to the Police.
