STATEMENT: AMA suspends taskforce member for ripping off trader’s ear

Information of an alleged assault (s) reached the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Wednesday and upon the information; the administration quickly undertook a preliminary investigation.

The taskforce member involved in the situation was suspended immediately.

The AMA continued its investigation on Thursday and based on additional information on the airwaves and publication in two leading newspapers (Daily Guide, Daily Searchlight) all attempts to make contact with the said victim (s) did not materialized.

After repetitive calls to the victim to listen to his side of the story proved futile, the AMA made contact with the Nima Divisional Police Station where the said victim was said to have made a report. The police confirmed this information but could not reach the victim for AMA to talk to.

The AMA will continue its attempts to reach the victim(s) and also support the police investigations into the matter. The AMA is committed to dealing with all the taskforce members who will be found to have committed any offence(s) in the discharged of their respected responsibilities.

The AMA apologizes and regrets such an unfortunate incident that does not represent the positive attitude of the Assembly.

Signed:
Sam Ayeh Dartey, Metro Co-ordinator
