State reception held in Accra

Accra, Jan. 23, GNA – A reception was held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra, on Thursday evening as part of the programme for the President’s State of the Nation address to Parliament. President John Agyekum Kufuor, Vice President Aliu Mahama and Mr Peter Ala Adjetey Speaker of Parliament, accompanied by their spouses attended.

Other dignitaries were Parliamentarians, politicians, the diplomatic corps and the public.

They were entertained by the Ghana Police Service band, which provided melodious tunes and the Ghana Dance Ensemble of the University of Ghana, Legon, which added cultural drumming and dancing.

President Kufuor, Alhaji Mahama and Mr Ala Adjetey exchanged pleasantries with the dignitaries.

The President’s 80-minute address in the morning gave an overview of the government’s for the past three years.

It dwelt mainly on the economy and achievements made so far in five priority areas, infrastructure development; modernized agriculture; private sector development; enhanced social services on health and education and good governance.
