Star of the Sea Catholic Church dedicates church building

Accra, Oct 30, GNA – Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Dansoman, Last Stop, in Accra, has dedicated the church edifice and altar to the glory of God .

Most Reverend Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, the Catholic Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, dedicated the building on Saturday to God Almighty, and congratulated leaders of Star of the Sea Catholic for the vision, which according to him would promote the growth and development of the church.

He appealed to the congregation to help Rev. Samuel Filton-Menash, the priest in-charge of the church, to maintain the chapel to the admiration of God.

Most Rev. Palmer-Buckle stressed that failure to regularly maintain the building would erase “the toil and sweat of members.”

He said God expected Christians to have pure and holy hearts in the discharge of their duties and added that Christians should sacrifice themselves for the benefit of humanity.

The Archbishop called on the youth to dress decently to church since, the church was a holy place of the Lord.

Most Rev. Palmer-Buckle said some people criticised the Catholic church out of ignorance and members defend the doctrine of the church and explained that “Some of our doctrines include the use of water, candles, light, and incense,”.

Rev. Filton-Menash, said the dedication of the church should reflect the lives of members in terms of church activities.

He said “we feel humbled indeed to be given the opportunity to contribute in raising the standard of the church edifice to the level worthy of dedication.”

Rev. Filton-Menash called on church members to use the occasion to renew their unity and foster closer bond in their aspirations to building a Eucharistic community and a church dedicated to prayer and spiritual growth.

Star of the Sea Catholic Church that was established on 2nd August, 1987 with about 20 members, 8 adults and 12 children, now has a membership of 2000.
