SSNIT ejects tenants

Kumasi, Sept 15, GNA – The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has embarked on an exercise to eject and re-possess its rental flats from tenants who have defaulted in paying rent.

Mr Yaw Oko B. Agyekum, the SSNIT Area Manager for the Ashanti Region, told the GNA in an interview with the GNA that about 60 per cent of tenants in the Asuyeboah rental flats were in arrears ranging from six to three years.

”What is more appalling is the attitude of tenants who have sublet their flats at over 400,000 cedis a month and collected two years rent advances but have refused to pay the monthly rent of 125,000 cedis due to the SSNIT.”

He said 25 out of the 80 defaulters were indebted to the tune of 31,646,000 cedis. Among them are the Suame Nkwanta Clinic, Kalomer Enterprise, Bobtay Autobody Works, Meridian Tobacco Company and Trade Link Agency.

Mr Agyekum said even though some of the defaulting tenants had brought a motion for stay execution of the exercise, SSNIT had also filed a counter motion to ensure that the exercise was carried out.
