Spillway gates of Weija opened

Accra, Sept. 23, GNA – The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) announced on Thursday that the spillway gates of the Weija Dam have been opened to avert structural damage and advised the public to take immediate precautionary measures to protect life and property.

The statement said the Management of the Ghana Water Company Limited has indicated that the spillway gates had to be opened because of the sudden rise in the level of the dam.

“All individuals, institutions, organisations and companies with properties downstream the dam must note that the opening of the spillway may causes massive flooding along the lower course of the Densu River.” The Weija Dam provides water to the west of Accra.
