Special Papal Envoy to participate in Eucharistic Congress

Accra, Nov. 17 GNA – A special Papal Envoy, Cardinal Anthony Okojie is in the country to participate in the Third National Eucharistic Congress of the Catholic Church which opens in Kumasi on Friday. The Congress, which is under the theme: “Eucharism, the Mission of the Church as the Family of God” coincides with the 125th anniversary of the Catholic Church in the country.

Cardinal Okojie, who is the Archbishop of Lagos, told the GNA, that he was happy to be representing the Pope at such an august Congress. He urged the leadership of churches to demonstrate exemplary conduct, saying such leadership qualities must run across every human institution.

The Archbishop of Accra Most Reverend Charles Palmer Buckle urged the church in Africa to support and encourage one another so that they could fulfil their mission of propagating the good news to humankind. The first Eucharistic Congress was held in 1951 and the second in 1958.

While in the country, Cardinal Okojie would pay courtesy calls on President John Agyekum Kufuor and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene. At the airport to meet the Cardinal was the Apostolic Pro-Nuncio George Kocherey, Monsignor Hillary Senoo and Monsignor Steven Adu-Kwaming both of the Catholic Church in Accra.
