Speaker declares Tamale Central seat vacant

Accra, March 03, GNA – The Speaker, Mr Ebenezer Sekyi Hughes, on Friday declared the Tamale Central constituency seat vacant following the resignation of the Member of Parliament for the area, Professor Al-Hassan Wayo Seini on Thursday.

Before declaring the seat vacant, the Speaker told the house that he had received communication from the member confirming his carpet crossing from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to his mother party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr Sekyi Hughes quoted article 97 of the constitution and Standing Order 80 and declared the seat vacant in line with provisions of the two documents.

Prof. Wayo Seini announced his resignation from the NDC, citing the lack of internal democracy and the violence that characterised the party’s congress at Koforidua in December last year.
