Some 83 million cedis mobilised towards NHIS in Jomoro

Half Assini, Aug 08, GNA – Mr Foli Edem, Jomoro District Health Insurance Scheme Manager, has said the response of people towards the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has so far been encouraging. He said the scheme had mobilised 83 million cedis being premiums from 21,205 registered people out of which 20,000 are from the informal sector.

Mr Edem, who was speaking to the GNA in an interview at the weekend, said 700 people have paid their premiums, while 9,000 others have made part payments.

He said 6,000 people had taken their photographs for their identification cards and the second round of the photo taking exercise is scheduled for August 14. Mr Edem said health care providers in the district had been given some training but they need money to purchase drugs before the scheme becomes operational.
