Somanya clashes: 13 arrested – Cephas Arthur

3 persons have been arrested in Somanya after some irate youth attacked a police station on Monday.

DSP Cephas Arthur, Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police, disclosed the information on Atinka TV’s Morning Show, “Ghana Nie” Tuesday, adding that the suspects will be charged with causing damage and unlawful assembly.

The irate youth on Monday stormed the Yilo Krobo Police Station, demanding the release of one of their colleagues, who was behind in bars for attacking an ECG office. They succeeded in destroying some items at the station and set ablaze a police Pickup.

DSP Cephas Arthur, said the police has launched an investigation into the matter, adding that the perpetrators will be brought to book.

Background

Monday’s riot follows a mass attack by some residents of Somanya on staff of the ECG in the area over alleged overbilling.

Reports say residents caused damages to a pickup truck belonging to the company.
