SMCs Advised Not To Interfere With Duties Of Headteachers

School Management Committees (SMCs) in basic schools have been advised not to interfere with the duties of head teachers.

Mr Samuel Kofi Okyere, the Adansi West District Director of Education, who gave the advice, urged SMCs to team up with heads of schools and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to develop action plans for the improvement of schools.

Mr Okyere was inaugurating the reconstituted School Management Committee for Adomanu Catholic primary and local authority Junior Secondary School at Adomanu near Akrokerri, in the Eastern Region last Wednesday. “I want you to develop action plans to improve enrolment levels as well as teaching and learning”, he stressed.

The district director urged the committee to mobilise community support to improve conditions in the school. He asked members to visit the schools regularly and charged the community to assist in the effective supervision of both teachers and pupils.

Mr Okyere touched on finances and urged the SMC to see to vet and approve all expenditures on school projects.

Mr Yaw Appiah, a member of the SMC on behalf of the committee, expressed the importance of education and pledged to work with his colleagues to raise the standard of education in the area.
