Small-scale miner jailed for inflicting wounds a woman’s breast

Tarkwa (WR), June 20, GNA – A Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced Kofi Kwarteng 29, a small-scale miner to eight years imprisonment on his own plea for inflicting wounds on the breast and left arm of his girlfriend Florence Baidoo 23, with a blade at Abosso-Kakoase near Tarkwa. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Florence Tawiah, told the court presided over by Mr John Ajet-Nasam that, Kwarteng and Florence Baidoo, have been in a relationship for more than five years. She said on May 25, this year, there was a misunderstanding between them that resulted in a quarrel and in the process Kwarteng took a blade and inflicted wounds on her breast and left arm.

The prosecution said, a witness who heard Florence shouting for help went to her rescue and took her to Tarkwa Government Hospital. She said Kwarteng went into hiding and was arrested on June 10 this year, and handed over to the police. Before the ruling, Florence pleaded with the court to discharge Kwarteng but the presiding Judge said the crime committed was against the State and not an individual.
