Small Scale miner builds health facility for Wassa Akropong Government Hospital

An 80-bed Children’s Ward has been constructed by Mr. Eric Coffie Rivers, Secretary of the Small Scale Mining Association, for the Wassa Akropong Government Hospital.

The facility, estimated at GH?70, 000, was funded by the miner as his widow’s mite for the community.

Inaugurating the facility at a ceremony at Wassa Akropong on Wednesday, the Paramount Chief of Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area, Kasapreko Kwame Bassanyin III, commended Mr. Rivers and appealed to the government to build a bungalow for the staff of the hospital in order to ensure quality health delivery in the District.

Mr. Rivers said he was motivated to support the hospital when he visited the hospital last year and realised that the facilities had deteriorated.

The Acting District Director of Health, Madam Mary Magdalene Arthur, said facilities in the hospital were not the best and appealed for assistance from corporate institutions and philanthropists.

She said the District Health Directorate had established 21 CHPS zones and appealed to the government to fast track the construction of a new hospital due to the increasing population of the district.
