Six Drowned in Volta Lake

Three women and three children were on Monday drowned in the Volta Lake at Kafeba in the East Gonja District, when an outboard motor boat in which they were travelling hit a tree stump and split into two.

The deceased, whose names were not given, were among sixty passengers ravelling from Kafeba to Kulow.

Other canoe operators upon hearing of the accident quickly mobilised and moved to the scene to rescue the passengers, who were mostly women.

They could not, however, salvage the bags of foodstuff and salt that the boat was carrying.

Two months ago about 70 people died on the lake when an outboard motor boat in which they were travelling from Kafeba to Yeji was also involved in a similar accident at Davaglo, nine kilometres to Yeji
