Situation at Archbishop Porter Girls normalises

Takoradi, Feb. 22, GNA – Madam Louisa Constance Aggrey, Headmistress of Archbishop Porter Girls Secondary School in Fijai near Takoradi, on Sunday said that about 98 per cent of students of the school had returned from mid-term holidays.

She told GNA in Takoradi on Monday tha t the students would soon prepare for their second term examinations. On Wednesday February 10, 2010 about 100 students of the school were admitted at Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital and Essikadu Hospital in Sekondi, after eating rice and groundnut soup and complained of stomach ache, resulting in a temporary closure of the school. Madam Aggrey said the school authorities would ensure that students keep the dormitories and environment clean and observe personal hygiene to avoid the outbreak of diseases.

She said the students would be prevented from eating in the dormitories and those who would want to eat between meals must do so at the dining hall and ensure that they wash their plates after meals. Madam Aggrey said that while the school was on mid-term break, the Ghana Water Company and the Zoomlion Company Limited disinfected the water system and cleaned the toilet, bathroom as well as dormitories. She said “Campus is calm and teachers are ready to continue with the school calendar”. Madam Aggrey said the school was waiting for the clinical and laboratory report on students who were admitted at the hospital.
