Accra July 30, GNA- Sister Cities Foundation on Wednesday presented 240 wheelchairs for distribution to the physically challenged in Ghana. Mr. Prince Kludjeson, Vice President and national coordinator of the Ghana Sister Cities Foundation said the goal and concept of the foundation is to seek peace and participate in grassroots community development and people to people contact.
He said districts should harness their economic potential in order to be self-reliance and to ensure rapid development of their communities.
Captain (RTD) Nkrabea Effah- Darteh, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, who received the items said the essence of development is to remove the difficulties of life. He said the invention of a wheelchair is to help the physically challenged by making life better for them.
He said development is very important in every country, adding, “because where there is development, life expectancy is high”. He encouraged Ghanaians to take the sister cities relationship very seriously since it sees to development at the local level and make effort to extend the establishing of local sister cities relationship. “For example, Brekum can have a sister cities relationship with Anloga in the Volta Region”.
He promised that the wheelchairs would be given to their actual beneficiaries, adding, “None of the chair would be sold.”
