Sir Anerood tours Akosombo Hydro-electric Power Station

Akosombo (E/R), July 1, GNA- The visiting Prime Minister and Head of Government of the Island of Mauritius, Sir Anerood Jugnauth, and his wife, Lady Sarojini Revi Jugnauth on Thursday paid a familiarisation tour of the Akosombo Hydro-electric power station at Akosombo in the Eastern Region as part of his four-day official visit to Ghana. Also on the tour was the former Nigerian President General Ibrahim Gbadamosi Babangida both of whom, were invited by the Government to participate in the 44th anniversary celebration of Ghana’s Republican status.

Accompanied by their host, President John Agyekum Kufuor and his wife Theresa, they were briefed on the operations of the generating plant by Mr. Kirk Koffi, Director of Hydro Generation of the Volta River Authority (VRA).

After the tour, Sir Anerood and former President Babangida as well as President Kufuor signed the visitor’s book. Sir Anerood wrote” I have been very much impressed by this plant and the organisation.

Congratulations to you all and best wishes for the future”.

President Babangida wrote, ” I had the opportunity to be here over a decade ago. I am glad to observe that the levels of maintenance and management continued to be at the highest level”.

Both Sir Anerood and President Babangida would participate in a State Dinner in honour of Senior Citizens of Ghana at the State House in Accra tonight.

On Friday, Sir Anerood would hold talks with President Kufuor at the Castle and visit the Tema Free Zone enclave. The visit is a reciprocal one by President Kufuor to the island in May last year.
