Bamson Company, manufacturers of Sikkens Car and Sandtex decorative paints has donated ?20m to the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) in response to an appeal made by the institute.
The amount is to be used in the rehabilitation of a spraying booth at the institute’s Auto Body Workshop.
Mr. Kwame Ofosu-Bamfo, Managing Director of Bamson Company Limited in an accompanying letter to the donation said his management was exceedingly happy to be part of KTI’s efforts in offering technical training to the youth of the country.
He recalled the fruitful and successful relationship between Bamson and the institute which dates back to 1986 when a tutor of the institute was among the first batch of sponsored sprayers to be trained in Holland.
A number of artisans through the institute have also benefited from similar training courses offered by Bamson Company in the motor industry which have enhanced the Institute’s area of specialization.
He hoped that KTI would not relent but continue to offer its quality training to the majority of the youth of Ghana to acquire employable skills in technical and vocational education.
The Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI), founded in 1977 as a joint project between the Government of Ghana and Canada, has since trained over 10,000 technicians, craftsmen and women for various industries and organizations, district assemblies and self-employment within and outside Ghana. In addition, the institute has trained about 3000 apprentices and master craftsmen and women for the informal sector of the economy through various joint Ghana Government, World Bank and other international financial institutions’ projects.
