Sheep stealing syndicate busted

The police at Bechem in Tano district of the Brong-Ahafo Region have busted a sheep stealing syndicate and impounded a taxi cab that was used in one of the operations.

Opanin Kofi Asamoah, Chairman of New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Breme near Bechem, told the GNA that the town had experienced frequent theft of sheep in the town and attempts by the people to apprehend the suspects had proved futile.

He said on the night of April 14 this year, one Mr Adu Sarkodie from Breme saw a taxicab with registration number AS 6084 N parked along the main road of the town.

He said Mr Sarkodie raised an alarm but when some people rushed to the scene, the driver of the vehicle whose name was not immediately available sped off towards the Breme-Acherewam road.

Opanin Asamoah said on the night of April 16, the syndicate came to the town again in a Taxicab with registration number AS 6108 E.

He said acting upon a tip-off, he quickly organized two groups, one of which mounted roadblocks on the main streets in the town while the other moved to the vehicle and a warning shot was fired.

Opanin Asamoah said the driver managed to move the taxicab at top speed and later parked it near a police barrier at Bechem junction and the driver and the men in the vehicle escaped.

He said three sheep were found in the booth of the car adding that the animals and the vehicle are in the custody of the police while investigations were continuing.
