Obuasi, April 27, GNA – Shaft FM, an Obuasi-based radio station, has re-affirmed its commitment to promote blood donation to ensure that the two major hospitals at Obuasi have ready blood for critical health delivery services.

They two hospitals are the Obuasi Government Hospital and the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital.

Speaking at its maiden campaign at Obuasi held under the theme: “Donate and Save Life 2009,” Mr Clarance Ankomah, acting General Manager of the station appealed to residents in the municipality to support the initiative.

He said due to the mining activities, industrial accidents at Obuasi were common and therefore the health facilities needed blood at their blood banks during emergencies.

He said accident victims needed immediate attention and the availability of blood was one of the major steps to saving the lives of such people.

He commended AngloGold Ashanti, Ghana Financial Services, UT financial Services, Akrofuom Rural Bank, Barclays, Araba Afram and BB Babbs Enterprises for supporting the FM station in its blood donation drive.

Mr Daniel Somuah, Senior Medical Technologist of AngloGold Ashanti Hospital lauded the initiative and hoped it would be sustained.
