Sewing machine donated to disabled woman

Akim Aboabo (E/R), July 19, GNA – Miss Emelia Peprah, a 24-year-old physically-challenged woman at Akim Aboabo in the Birim South District, was on Thursday presented with a sewing machine and a cheque for 200,000 cedis at a ceremony at Akim Aboabo. Lilian Fonds, a Dutch NGO, which assists handicap persons, donated the sewing machine valued at 400,000 cedis, while Mr Seth Fiifi Aboagye, General Manager of Oda Sawmills, donated the amount.

In an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Eric Obodai Torto, a Peripatetic teacher of the Ghana Education Service (GES), said Miss Peprah was identified as physically challenged by the community based rehabilitation programme. He said the woman completed training in dressmaking three years ago but had been idle due to the inability of the parents to provide her with a sewing machine. Mr Torto said he made an appeal to Lilian Fonds who donated the sewing machine while Mr Aboagye, donated the 200,000 cedis as seed money to enable her to start a vocation in dressmaking. He thanked the donors for their humanitarian gesture.
