Seven convicted armed robbers escape from Prison

Sekondi, May 3, GNA – Seven convicted armed robbers, at about 1300 hours on Sunday, dramatically escaped from the Sekondi Central Prison. A source close to the Prison told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that one of the escapees, a Fulani, was apprehended and those on the run; include three armed robbers, who were recently sentenced to a total of 120 years by a Sekondi High Court.

The source said some friends of the convicts visited them at the Prison and together with the convicts attacked the Prison guards on duty and broke into the armoury and took away seven riffles. He said the convicts and the visitors attacked the guard at the main gate, slashed his hand and opened the gate and got out of the Prison.

The source said they stopped a trotro that was passing by and shot the driver dead and sped off with the vehicle but they collided with a taxi near the Ketan Estates He said the escapees abandoned the trotro and run away. A search is going on to arrest them, adding that, three of the stolen riffles were found in the trotro.
