Seven Candidates via for Presidency

Seven candidates filed their papers to contest Ghana’s 7 December presidential election when the two-day nomination ended Wednesday.

National Electoral Commissioner Kwadwo Afari-Gyan said Vice President John Evans Atta Mills filed on the ticket of the ruling National Democratic Congress, while John Agyekum Kufuor is the flag bearer of the main opposition New Patriotic Party.

The others are Dan Lartey of the Great Consolidated Popular Party, George Hagan of the Convention People’s Party, Edward Mahama of the People’s National Convention, Augustine Tanoh of the National Reform Party, and Charles Wereko-Brobby of the United Ghana Movement.

President Jerry Rawlings completes his second four-year term in January 2001.
