Seven Apam Junction accident victims identified

Apam (C/R), May 14, GNA – Seven out of the 10 people who got injured in the Apam Junction accident on Monday morning have been identified, the Apam District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police Asare Baffour, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview. They are Mohammed Awuni, aged 31, the driver of the articulator truck, his mate whose name was only given as Ali are currently on admission at the Apam Catholic Hospital.

He said Mr. Imoro Saaka, who was also in the articulator and was taken to the Winneba Government Hospital, has been transferred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Mr Asare Baffour said relatives had taken four others, who were sent to the Apam Catholic Hospital, away to hospitals of their choice. Three of them were named as Grace Anyam, aged 21, Lucy Nyameke and the other whose name was only given as Agnes.

He said the police are investigating the cause of the accident. Two persons were killed on the spot and about 10 others received injuries when three vehicles including a State Transport bus crashed with an articulator near Apam Junction.

Last Friday 40 persons died in a similar accident involving seven vehicles at Gomoa Okyereko near Winneba and injured several passengers.
