Senya to spend 150 million cedis on electricity project

Senya (B/A), March 3, GNA – Residents of Senya in the Nkoranza District of Brong Ahafo are to spend about 150 million cedis to connect the area to the national electricity grid under the government’s Self Help Electrification Programme.

Mr Eric Baffoe, chairman of the unit committee told Ghana News Agency that a layout of the area had already been developed for the project and about 120 low-tension poles would be required for the project.

He said the people had purchased 35 of the poles and had purchased 100 bags of cement and one tonne of iron rods for the manufacture of concrete poles.

The unit committee chairman added that they were expecting an expert from the District Assembly to offer technical advice and training to the youth towards the manufacture of the poles. Mr Baffoe commended the government for providing the community with a six-classroom block for the local primary school. He announced that the unit committee and opinion leaders in the area had decided on a fund raising rally during the coming Easter to generate more funds to support the project.

Resident citizens would also contribute 50,000 cedis a man and 30, 000 cedis a woman, whiles non-residents would pay 100,000 cedis each. Mr Baffoe appealed to the Nkoranza District Assembly to assist with cement and iron rods to manufacture more concrete poles. He expressed gratitude to the youth for their communal spirit towards development programmes and urged them to maintain it for the speedy development of the community.

Mr Baffoe asked non-residents to visit home during the Easter to contribute towards on-going development programmes in the area.
